EMU & Function Testing For Automotive Industry

AutomotiveFebruary 13, 2026

The heart of this automotive function testing unit is a custom PCB built around the Arduino Pro Mini, designed to withstand the harsh electrical environment of a vehicle. The board features a robust power management stage using an LM2596 buck converter and TVS diodes to step down erratic 12V-14V vehicle power to a clean, stable 5V, protecting the logic core from voltage spikes up to 60V.For communication, an MCP2515 CAN Bus controller interfaces via SPI to enable real-time diagnostic data exchange and ECU emulation. The design prioritizes signal integrity and safety through optocoupler isolation for all input channels and low-side MOSFET switching (IRF540) with flyback diodes for driving high-current inductive loads like relays and solenoids. This architecture ensures reliable Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing without risking damage to the vehicle's sensitive electronic control units.
